Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Coordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) to submit their replies in a petition against expelling Dr Farooq Sattar from the party.

A division bench of the SHC issued these orders after it admitted the petition of Dr Farooq Sattar, former convener of MQM-P against his expulsion from the party. The court issued notices to Rabita Committee and party leaders Amir Khan and Nasreen Jalil by ordering them to submit their replies by February 14, 2019. The Election Commission has also been directed to submit its reply. The petition submitted before the court that the decision to expel Farooq Sattar from MQM-P was against the electoral as well as the party laws and stated that there was only Kunwar Naveed's signature on the expulsion document.

On November 8, 2018, the MQM-Pakistan expelled Dr Farooq Sattar from the party for violating party discipline. MQM-Pakistan Rabita Committee, the party's decision-making council, suspended Dr Sattar's basic membership. In the petition, Farooq Sattar stated that his expulsion from the MQM-Pakistan was illegal.
